DEMONIC FEATURES GUIDE

Demonic Features Guide
Starting each character's second month in Penance, depending on how they've dealt with sin, they may start to develop more demonic features to represent the corruption of their soul. This is a handy guide to what features characters may expect, all left up to player preferences!

Please note that while characters can gain new features the more sin they allow themselves to engage in, or punishments they choose to ignore, these can be reversible by participating in some sort of redemption. Well, to a certain point, at least.

By the time your character begins to look more demon than human, the corruption will be largely permanent and mostly irreversible. They may be able to get back to a somewhat normal looking shape but they will never be what they once were. This won't happen too quickly, taking over months to do, and characters won't be strictly told about this possible outcome in any great detail. Lucifer may casually mention that even he can't undo some damage beyond a certain point, but he won't delve into it too greatly.

Now, with that out of the way, please read the following for ideas on features. Note that these are just ideas based on the old stereotypes of demons. Your character may develop all sorts of demonic and monstrous looking changes. As it is true that the demons of Hell are all different, so to will your character become.

Horns ○ Characters may initially start to notice their forehead feels a bit... bumpier than usual. These nubs will slowly grow in to proper horns over time into whatever style you prefer. They may cause headaches or, at a certain point, a sensation like skin is tearing from within as the newly form horns begin to finally pierce through. There could be two, three, four or more. Horns don't only need to be on the forehead or crown either. Elbows, knees. They could be anywhere.

Teeth ○ Characters may initially start to feel like their teeth are aching. It won't be concerning at first, but depending on how players wish to handle it, it can get that way! Either teeth can start to transform into sharp points, or fall out only to be replaced with fangs. They can also be retractable, only coming out at certain times. It'll be like teething all over again!

Skin ○ Characters skin may begin to change shades as well. To red, blue, green, etc. Any unnatural shade that feels appropriately demonic to you. It may start as a patch and just gradually begin expanding over a larger portion of the body. Skin might also become tough like hide or scaly. Rough, or smooth. They may develop unnatural bumps or other strange mutations.

Nails ○ Characters nails may begin to fall out and gradually be replaced by talon-like claws. Much like horns, it will be gradual and likely painful.

Eyes ○ Characters may start to experience eye irritation or blurred vision. They may notice the whites of their eyes seem a little less bright and maybe a bit more red or yellow. Maybe even black. They may notice their baby blues or browns are changing as well. Perhaps they even start to glow.

Ears ○ Characters may notice their ears start to ache or itch as they become more pointed.

Tails ○ Much like horns, characters may begin to notice a small protrusion at first that keeps growing into a proper tail. It won't cause any sort of piercing or tearing sensation, but it will ache quite a bit. You'll also have to rethink your wardrobe around your new appendage.

Genitalia ○ Characters may find their nether regions looking... interesting. Perhaps they've grown teeth down below, or knots, or seem to have more than one.

Wings ○ Characters may think their back is simply aching or sore. Those beds at the hotel sure are lumpy after all. At least until the wings start tearing their way through and out. Ouch. These will be featherless and more akin to bat wings than anything angelic.

Temperature ○ Characters may initially feel like they're running a fever that just won't go away. Eventually, they should get used to running a little hotter than their fellow sinners. It just takes time!

Again, these are just a few ideas that players are free to mix and match from. These changes also aren't strictly enforced at the moment, but a way to show your characters are succumbing to corruption. If there's something not listed above, feel free to suggest it down below an we'll add it. Have fun with this!

Would it be possible for characters to overtime develop venom to go along with their fangs or claws? I can see how it might be dicey if it gets to be a new power, but it could be something that gets more potent over time, or has more like sedative or aphrodisiac or narcotic effects.

If people like that sort of thing.
